Experts have opined that unilateral decisions being taken by President Donald Trump especially the lingering trade war with China, India, Russia and others is bringing them more closer to cooperate on economic and other fronts.
Retired Indian diplomat Anil Trigunayat tells Sputnik after high-level Russo-Indian talks, that “closer cooperation among big powers like Russia, India and China is regenerated to reap the benefits and avoid pitfalls of hegemonist approaches”.
Trigunayat stressed that reliability, dependability and the three Ms—mutual interests, mutual sensitivity and mutual respect—are “becoming the guiding principles” of BRICS members.
President of the Global Strategic Policy Foundation Pune, Dr Anant Bhagwat, warned that Washington’s big strategic mistake-the US tariff war is alienating India at both trade and geopolitical levels.
“What the US tariffs are doing is that they are accelerating India’s push towards Atmanirbharta [self-reliance],” he said.
At the same time they are accelerating Russo-Indian copperation under the ‘Make in India’ policy in a vast variety of fields, including defence, railways, nuclear power and crude oil.
Ruling BJP party leader in Goa Savio Rodrigues said, “While the US chooses to impose tariffs, India will diversify partnerships to safeguard our economic resilience.
“The push to achieve $100 billion trade with Russia is not just about numbers; it is a strategic assertion that India has multiple avenues to grow, innovate, and secure its energy and defense needs.
“It’s impossible to pit India, Russia and China against each other as the RIC mechanism—Russia, India, China—is a stabilizing forum for Eurasia and the Asia-Pacific
“A carefully revived RIC could become a counterbalance to disruptive global alignments and strengthen India’s role as a bridge-builder”.
