The Command said the breakthrough was recorded by operatives of its Crack Unit (VCRU) following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the incident occurred on October 13, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., when one Abba K., of Damboa Road, Maiduguri, boarded a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) and later discovered that his Infinix Smart 8 phone was missing from his pocket.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of Police ordered a thorough investigation.
"Through diligent investigation, digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering, the operatives successfully apprehended six suspects allegedly connected to the crime," the statement said.
The suspects were said to have confessed to stealing the phone and unlawfully withdrawing N5,650,000 from the victim's bank account, which they allegedly shared among themselves.
