Gombe State has been selected as one of only three states in Nigeria to represent the country at the Sommet D’élevage (World Livestock Summit), scheduled to take place from October 5 to 11, 2025, in Clermont Ferrand, France.
The recognition, announced by the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project National Coordination Office, follows the impactful livestock reforms of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
In an official communication, the National Coordination Office praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary leadership and strong commitment to transforming the livestock sector in Gombe. It noted that the state’s excellent performance in implementing the L-PRES project, supported by active State Steering and Technical Committees, earned Gombe a spot on the national delegation.
The Gombe team will join Nigeria’s delegation to engage with global stakeholders, investors, and experts in livestock production, trade, and innovation.
The World Livestock Summit, Europe’s largest livestock gathering, will focus on sustainability, innovation, and opportunities across the livestock value chain. For Gombe, participation offers a chance to attract investment, strengthen value chains, and adopt global best practices.
Governor Yahaya’s administration has already laid a strong foundation with projects such as the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone, which features an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, leather factory, and other facilities. These investments position the state as a rising livestock hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
The Gombe State Government is expected to use the summit to build partnerships that will further boost livestock productivity, resilience, and economic growth.
