The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 32-year-old woman, Hauwau Abubakar, who lost her life in a tragic accident at a rice mill in Tumu Community, Akko Local Government Area.
The incident, which happened on Sunday at about 10:30 a.m., occurred when Hauwau’s clothing got entangled with the rotating belt of a rice milling machine while she was buying rice from a miller, Muhammad Danjuma, 29. The machine dragged her forcefully, causing a fatal neck injury.
She was rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Tumu but was confirmed dead by a doctor. Her body has since been released to her family for burial according to Islamic rites.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family and the entire Tumu community.
In a public advisory, the Command urged workers, traders, and machine operators to take safety measures when dealing with milling and grinding machines. The Police advised people to avoid wearing flowing clothes near machines, keep children away from such equipment, install protective guards, and report unsafe practices.
The Command assured residents of its continuous commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting public safety across the state.
