Jigawa PDP Raises Alarm Over Poor Budget Performance Ranking By BudgIT

By Tahir Mohammed, Dutse

The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over the recently released BudgIT report, which ranked the state as the lowest budget performing state in the country.

In a statement issued and signed by the state party Chairman Dr. Babandi Gumel described the release as horrible as well a wake up call on Governor Umar Namadi to prioritize capital projects and focus on completing key infrastructure, health, and education projects that directly impact citizens’ lives.

According to the statement, Jigawa recorded one of the lowest capital budget implementation rates, with critical sectors like health, education, and infrastructure receiving far less than allocated.

The PDP queried the state government overspending on recurrent expenditures—especially personnel costs as it has crowded out funds meant for development projects.

Similarly, it criticised the government on transparency and citizen engagement in budget processes as its commitments towards that direction was rated poorly, with limited access to budget documents and performance updates.

The PDP recommended to Governor Umar Namadi to without further delay strengthen IGR mechanisms.

Furthermore, the PDP called on Governor Namadi to act swiftly and decisively to restore fiscal discipline, rebuild public trust, and reposition the state for inclusive growth.
