Federal Varsity Kashere ASUU Awards Scholarships To Indigent Students, Supports Academic Pursuit

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Gombe State, has awarded scholarships to four indigent students to support their academic journey.
The scholarship letters were presented during a brief ceremony at the ASUU Secretariat by the branch chairperson, Comrade Shehu El-Rasheed.
He explained that the gesture was to complement the efforts of ASUU’s National Body, which also awarded scholarships to two students from FUK.
Each national beneficiary received ₦200,000.
On its part, the FUK branch identified four deserving students, including a visually impaired student, and paid half of their school fees. Each of the beneficiaries also received ₦50,000 to assist with their studies.
Comrade El-Rasheed said the beneficiaries were selected after a rigorous screening process, which required a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00.
He explained that the indigent scholarship scheme was inspired by the Late Gani Fawehinmi Scholarship procedure to help less-privileged students struggling to pay their fees.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the funds strictly for academic purposes, saying, “This support is meant to help your education, and we hope you will make the best use of it.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Muhammad Nasir, a 300-level student of Education Foundations, thanked ASUU for the timely intervention. He said the funds would help him prepare for his upcoming teaching practice, which requires purchasing materials and covering logistics.
“This is the first scholarship I have ever received since entering the university. I appeal to other university-based unions to introduce similar schemes,” he said.
The national body’s beneficiaries are Jamilu Shuaibu Zakariyya of Political Science and Aluse Jude Aondongu of Entrepreneurship.
The FUK branch beneficiaries are Husaini Ibrahim of Entrepreneurship, Adamu Sani of Education Foundations, Adebayo Emmanuel of Economics and Development Studies, and Abubakar Muhammad Nasir of Education Foundations.
