In a compassionate move that has been widely appreciated across Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed has secured a drastic reduction in the cost of mortuary services at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi.
Through the governor’s magnanimity, the charges for mortuary services ( Corpse Storage Fee ) at ATBUTH, has been reviewed downward from #5,000 to #1,000, per night, easing the financial strain on bereaved families.
Speaking on behalf of the governor at the hospital, his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Danladi Yakubu Alola, said that the initiative was guided by compassion and the governor’s belief that governance must provide practical relief to citizens.
“His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed, has always insisted that governance must translate into real relief for the people. Death is a painful reality and we cannot add financial hardship to the grief of families.
This is why he directed me to negotiate with the hospital management, and we are glad to have achieved a downward review of mortuary charges of storage from #5,000 to just #1,000 per night, ” he explained.
Yakubu Alola assured that the Bala Mohammed’s administration would continue to roll out policies that address the real needs of the masses.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the ATBUTH, Bauchi, Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin, applauded the governor’s intervention and emphasised its impact on the hospital-community relationship.
“We are deeply grateful to Governor Bala Mohammed for prioritising the welfare of the people during their most vulnerable moments. The hospital management responded positively to his plea and this reduction in mortuary charges (corpse storage), from #5,000 to #1,000 per night, will ease the burden on grieving families. It is a clear example of governance grounded in empathy and human dignity, ” the professor stated.
The initiative adds to Governor Bala Mohammed’s record of people-centred governance, with similar interventions in health care, education, rural empowerment and infrastructure development.
By directly addressing sensitive issues like funeral expenses, the governor has reinforced his administration’s reputation as one that values inclusivity, compassion, and practical solutions to the daily struggles of citizens.
The new mortuary service rate of corpse storage is expected to take immediate effect at ATBUTH, providing dignity and succour to grieving families across the state.
