Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested one Ahmadu Mairiga, suspected to have caused the death of 40 years old Irmiya Yohanna at his farm on the outskirts of a village, Kaduna- Bogoro axis, Bauchi State.
A statement issued by the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said that on receipt of a report on the incident, the police stormed the scene, and moved the victim to Bogoro General hospital, where a medical doctor certified him dead.
“Today, 8th August 2025, at about 0100 hours, the command received a report from one Emmanuel Bulus, the village head of Kaduna via Bogoro LGA, Bauchi State, that one Irmiya Yohanna ‘m’ aged 40 years of Kaduna-Bogoro, went to farm situated at outskirts of the village on 07/08/2025. Still, he couldn’t return home, a search was conducted within and around the farm, and his lifeless body was found lying on the farm premises, ” the statement said in part.
It said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was suspected to have been
killed by anonymous people. Subsequently, some irate locals invaded some rearing cattle around the village stabbed and killed approximately 20 cows, 19 sheep, and several others were injured. About 249 cows were rescued by the police.
According to the statement, Investigation further revealed that the deceased was on a visit to his farm surprisingly sighted some cows rearing inside the farm and sought the herders to chase the cows out of his farm, resulting in a physical confrontation which led to the tragic death of Irmiya Yohanna.
The CP, Sani-Omolori Aliyu conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, met the chairman of Bogoro LGA, Fulani heads (Ardo), traditional rulers, Tsayawa leaders, other relevant stakeholders, and the general locals crowded at the frontage of Bogoro Divisional Police Headquarters, where he addressed them on efforts and measures put in place by the command to address the incident.
He, however, urged members of the Bogoro community to exercise patience, warned them against breaching the law, appealed for calm and assured that justice would be served accordingly.
