Subject to board approval, the AfDB is set to contribute $500 to anchor the financing of Ethiopian Mega Airport project.
It was a transformational regional integration project located near Bishoftu, approximately 45 kilometres southeast of Addis Ababa.
According to Sputnik Africa, the bank has led efforts to raise $7.8 billion for the airport, which is designed to accommodate 100 million passengers annually.
Upon completion in 2029, it will be Africa’s largest.
Ethiopian Airlines has already secured the design for the ambitious four-runway airport and has committed to contributing 20% of the total $10 billion project cost. The remaining funding will be sourced from creditors.
