The National President of Rev Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi Alumni Association (MOAUAA), Comrade Mrs Comfort Ashilu Abaivo, has unveiled a four-year strategic plan aimed at transforming the association and contributing to the development of her alma mater.
Abaivo presented the plan on Friday during the Inaugural Dinner, Award Presentation, and Unveiling of the Alumni Strategic Plan held at Benue Hotels, Makurdi.
She said the mission of her administration is to engage alumni, support students, and promote the legacy and growth of the university.
Outlining her priorities, Abaivo pledged to strengthen alumni engagement through annual reunions, zonal meetings, and the establishment of MOAUAA chapters in key cities within and outside Nigeria.
She said the association would partner with the university for campus improvements, including an intra-campus transport system, renovation of facilities such as hostels and public toilets, and repairs to student accommodations.
She also announced plans to ensure financial sustainability through the launch of endowment, investment, and development funds, alongside expanding the alumni economy via improved dues collection, enhanced donor networks, and income-generating ventures such as shops, a guest house, and conference facilities on campus.
In the area of digital transformation, Abaivo said her administration would redesign the alumni website, develop a mobile app, enhance social media presence, and create a digital alumni directory. The plan will be implemented in phases over four years, with each stage focusing on infrastructure upgrades, scholarship programmes, and expanding revenue streams.
The Progress made, she said, would be monitored through annual reviews, mid-term evaluations, and independent project audits, with a target of engaging over 20,000 alumni and significantly improving university infrastructure by the end of her tenure.
In her welcome remarks, Abaivo promised to rebuild the public image of the alumni association and urged members to shun political divisions in the interest of unity.
She thanked Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, for supporting the association and appointing an alumnus, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua, as pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Benue State University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Ihugh.
In her remarks, Chairlady of the occasion, Dr Grace Adagba, represented by Dr Margaret Uba, described Abaivo as a “visionary leader” whose performance in the past two months had been “marvelous.”
Prof. Anthony Apenda, a founding member of the association, commended the clarity of the action plan and pledged the committee’s full support towards its implementation.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished alumni, including Dr Bem Ugo, the association’s first democratically elected president; Prof. Raymond Wuan, the first MOAUAA graduate to become a professor and deputy vice chancellor; Dr Peter Adejoh, recognised for assisting the less privileged; Chief Douglas Terkura Pepe, the first alumnus to attain the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria; Dr Grace Adagba, honoured for empowerment and job creation; Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua, the first alumnus to become a vice chancellor; and Apostle George Tersoo Gudu, recognised for his commitment to alumni activities.
Abaivo closed with a call to action, urging members to “build our legacy together” through active participation, payment of dues, volunteerism, mentorship, and support for projects.
