The Republic of Chad has celebrated its 65th Independence Anniversary from French Colonial rule.
Sputnik Africa reports that, President Muhammad Idriss Deby Itno had earlier on Monday, laid wreaths at the Monument aux Morts, paying tribute to the heroes who gave the country its freedom and sovereignty.
In his message delivered to the nation, he called on Chadians to celebrate their individual and collective freedom.
He said, “Celebrate your right to think, to choose, to build. Your actions will make our nation great.”
He highlighted the importance of the Chad Connection 2030 Plan, focused on education, agriculture, livestock, infrastructure, drinking water, and health, which will be presented in Abu Dhabi.
Chad was colonized by France at the end of the 19th century. On August 11, 1960, it was proclaimed independent under the leadership of François Tombalbaye, the first president, amid rising African nationalism and aspirations for self-determination against colonial rule. (Sputnik Africa)
