Members of the Benue State House of Assembly, have unanimously elected Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga Berger of Makurdi North State Constituency as the new Speaker of the House following the resignation of the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh who survived an impeachment move on Friday.
The House had suspended four of its members Friday for attempting to impeach Rt. Hon. Dajoh.
DAILYLIGHT REPORTERS reported that the impeachment spearheaded by Hon. Alfred Berger was described by respondents as baseless and an calculated political move that was suicidal.
However, the resignation of Hon. Dajoh on Sunday and the emergency of Hon. Berger as Speaker has sparked different reactions in the state.
A political commentator, Comrade Teryila Avuve opined that: “Political temple is not a Church, anything can happen here devoid of morality”.
Mr. Paul Makir expressed joy over the emergency of Hon. Berger as the new Speaker saying, the political calculation would favour the Governor.
Hon. Dajoh in his resignation letter wrote that: “This is done in good in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
