The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State has arrested six men for allegedly removing the eyes of a dead man from his grave at Gaɗam North Cemetery in Kwami Local Government Area.
Parading the suspects, the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Sa’ad, on behalf of the State Commandant, Jibrin Idris, said the arrest followed credible intelligence received by officers at the Gaɗam Division. The suspects were arrested during a joint operation on 11th September 2025.
According to the NSCDC, those arrested are: Adamu Umar (22 years), Umar Jibrin Aboki (21 years), Abdullahi Umar Dauda (17 years), Muhammed Isa Chindo (28 years), Kawuji Sarki (39 years) and Manu Sale (23 years). The suspects are all from different communities within Kwami LGA.
SC Buhari Sa’ad explained that investigation revealed how Kawuji Sarki contracted Muhammed Isa Chindo, who later brought in the other suspects, to exhume the body of the late Malam Manu Wanzam, an 85 year old man buried on 9th September. They allegedly removed the deceased’s eyes in exchange for ₦500,000 each before reburying the corpse.
“The suspects have already confessed to the crime. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices still at large. Once investigations are completed, the suspects will be charged to court,” Sa’ad stated.
The NSCDC Commandant assured that the corps remains committed to protecting lives, property, and community peace. He commended residents for their cooperation and urged them to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest security office or through the corps’ hotlines.
