Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has renewed commitment to ending insecurity in Katsina and other States States across the country.
He made this known while on a working visit to the state on Monday, expressing appreciation for the support the Nigerian Army continues to receive from the people and government of Katsina state.
He therefore commiserated with the state over recent losses of lives due to banditry and other criminal activities, describing them as “unfortunate and saddening,” but also as a motivation to intensify the fight.
“The enemy is within, and it is important for us to fish out these enemies of the state and deal with them decisively,” he said.
The army chief emphasised that security is a collective responsibility, stressing that intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public are critical to defeating insecurity.
“We’ll do more to secure Katsina, but we cannot succeed without the support of everyone. Security is everybody’s business, and with your partnership, we can make Nigeria safer,” he added.
He disclosed that he had already held private discussions with the acting governor of Katsina on further strengthening security strategies in the state.
Reassuring residents of the federal government’s backing, the Army Chief affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to providing the necessary support for military operations nationwide.
The acting governor, Faruk Lawal Jobe, thanked the COAS for the visit, and assured of the state government continued support to end banditry, adding that the state government had made huge investments in the security sector to ensure success in the fight.
