Katsina Govt Deploys 8 New Armor Personnel Carriers To Fight Bandits

The Katsina State government has expanded its security assets with the launch of eight newly procured Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) in a renewed push to strengthen the fight against banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
Acting Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe unveiled the vehicles shortly after chairing a State Security Council meeting at Government House, Katsina where he reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The move comes in the wake of last week’s deadly attack in Gidan Mantau, Karfi Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area which left at least 28 people dead.
The Acting Governor described the incident as “sad and unfortunate,” while vowing that government would continue to act decisively against criminal elements.
“The battle against banditry is not over until it is won,” Jobe declared. “We will not be distracted by the cowardly actions of criminals who target innocent citizens. We commend the courage of local communities, who resisted and overpowered the attackers.”
According to him, security forces have rescued 76 kidnapped victims in the latest operations, while others escaped during abduction attempts. He also revealed that the Chief of Army Staff is scheduled to visit Katsina tomorrow for an on-the-ground assessment of security challenges and operational needs.
Highlighting progress in frontline areas, Jobe noted that government investments in security, including the Community Watch and Vigilante programmes, have stabilised four local governments Jibia, Batsari, Safana, and Dan Musa. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with federal forces, particularly in tackling criminal hideouts deep in the forests.
Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, who also briefed journalists, extended condolences to victims of the Malumfashi attack. He confirmed that 28 casualties were recorded but praised the coordinated response that led to the rescue of 72 captives.
Danmusa disclosed that Katsina has invested over ₦36 billion in security, acquiring one of the largest fleets of armoured vehicles in northern Nigeria. With the new addition, the state now has 43 APCs at its disposal.
“Banditry is a dangerous phenomenon requiring both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies,” he said. “Security is also a community-driven effort. We call on citizens to partner with government and security agencies in this noble cause,” he said.
