The DuDu Foundation, in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has extended life-changing empowerment to more than 80 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across Akwa Ibom State.
The programme, held on Wednesday at the Ati Annang Foundation Hall, Ikot Ekpene, saw beneficiaries drawn from Ikot Ekpene, Eket, and Uyo Senatorial Districts receive starter packs, cash, and educational support. Items distributed included wheelchairs, crutches, Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, Android phones, chemicals, and equipment for soap and detergent production.
Pupils and students also benefited through back-to-school kits and financial assistance.
Founder of DuDu Foundation, Ms. Edu Offong, described the initiative as a landmark effort toward equity, inclusion, and social justice in the Niger Delta.
“This programme is not about charity; it is about restoring dignity, creating opportunities, and affirming the rightful place of persons with disabilities in our society.
True development is measured not only by roads and industries but also by how much we uplift the most vulnerable among us,” Offong stated.
She commended the NDDC for its collaboration and acknowledged Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his inspirational leadership.
Also speaking, Mrs. Nnene Bassey, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on PwDs, praised the initiative and urged other organisations and individuals to emulate DuDu Foundation’s commitment to inclusion.
Mr. Moffat Ekoriko, Publisher of News Africa Magazine, stressed that empowerment means enabling PwDs to contribute meaningfully to society.
He called on privileged individuals to extend support, noting that such acts make the world more balanced and humane.
The event concluded with renewed calls for sustained advocacy and investment in PwDs, with participants emphasizing that when persons with disabilities rise, society rises with them.
