DSS Honours CHRAN Director Franklyn Isong With Excellence Award

The Department of State Services (DSS), Akwa Ibom State Command, has conferred an Excellence Award on the Director of the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), Otuekong Franklyn Isong, in recognition of his contributions to security and human rights advocacy.

The award was presented during the South-South Geo-Political Zonal Quarterly Conference of State Directors of Security (SDS) at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Presenting the award, the State Director of Security, Dr. Adedoyin Adetuberu, OON, commended Isong’s outstanding role in strengthening human rights advocacy and civil society engagements through CHRAN, as well as his consistent support for security agencies in the state and the country at large.

CHRAN was represented at the event by its Secretary, Comrade (Barr.) Christopher Ekpo.

The conference drew high-level participants, including heads of all security agencies in Akwa Ibom, such as the Commander of the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army; Commander of NNS Jubilee; the Commissioner of Police; Comptroller of Immigration; Comptroller of Corrections; Commandants of EFCC, FRSC, NSCDC, and NDLEA.

Also in attendance were the Hon. Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, PhD (represented by Hon. Friday Iwok), the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Ottong; the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom, Hon. Justice Ekaette Obot (represented by Justice Edem Akpan), and traditional leaders, including the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene, HRM Akuku Okon Udo Ukut.

Governor Umo Eno, PhD, who was the Special Guest of Honour, was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Security, DIG (rtd.) Yemi Ogunjemilusi.

Goodwill messages were presented by dignitaries and security chiefs, underscoring the significance of the conference to regional peace and security.

The high point of the event was the presentation of awards to other distinguished honourees, with Otuekong Franklyn Isong being celebrated for his unwavering commitment to human rights, accountability, and security collaboration in Akwa Ibom State.
