The Benue State House of Assembly suspended four of its members Friday for attempting to impeach the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aôndona Dajoh.
The Attempted Impeachment spearheaded by Hon. Alfred Berger has been described as baseless and an uncalculated political move that is suicidal.
A political commentator, Mr Anongo Terseer stated that: “Hon. Speaker, Dajoh has gained popularity in recent times and has the backing of the Benue masses.
“It is needless to attempt anything funny against him at the moment. The man is heartily loved by the people. An attempt against him is an attempt against the Benue masses.’
The attempt was an open secret since two days ago and the Benue State House of Assembly was well prepared for it.
In a swift reaction, Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Hyacinth Alia gave a press release following the suspension of Hon. Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North Constituency and three members that the attention of the Government House Makurdi had been drawn to speculations bothering on alleged attempts to impeach the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The CP’S said: ” Governor Hyacinth Alia, is not aware of, and has no involvement whatsoever in, any purported attempt to remove the Speaker or in any activities currently taking place in the Benue State House of Assembly.,
“Governor Alia holds the legislature in the highest esteem and maintains unwavering respect for the rule of law as well as the principle of separation of powers among the three arms of government, he added.
DAILYLIGHT REPORTERS gathered that there are tensions among the political elites in the state concerning the 2027 political permutations and the fate of the duo of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia and Speaker Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh since the governor started implementing a peace pact with key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in the state, especially the ‘Abuja politicians.
