The Katsina State government has hailed the Nigerian Army for a successful operation in Kankara Local Government Area of the state where seven armed bandits were neutralised and four motorcycles recovered during a gun battle at Baba community.
According to the Commissioner for Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mua’zu, the encounter took place on Thursday after troops acted on credible intelligence that revealed the movement of bandits who had been terrorising farming communities.
Dr Mua’zu in statement he issued on Friday said the operation lasted more than two hours where the soldiers killed seven of the criminals, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
He noted that the operation forms part of the military’s ongoing push to dismantle criminal hideouts across frontline local government areas, stressing that the efforts were aimed at securing rural communities and ensuring farmers could return to their fields during the rainy season without fear of attack.
Dr Mu’azu, therefore praised the troops for their professionalism and resilience, describing their success as a boost to Katsina’s broader security strategy.
“As a government, we remain fully committed to supporting security agencies through logistics, intelligence sharing, and community-based collaborations.
“We call on residents, particularly in rural areas, to continue providing timely information that will help sustain this momentum against banditry,” he said.
The state government assured citizens that every effort is being made to secure lives and livelihoods, reaffirming its resolve to defeat criminal elements and restore lasting peace in Katsina.
