A Dutse based retired Journalists with over thirty years working experience, Comrade Mohammed Suleiman Dutse has advocated for the establishment of Journalists Insurance Cover for working Journalists in the country due to the hazard of the profession.
” It was about time for govt to looked into the possibility in providing Insurance cover for working Journalists in the country. This will go along way in protecting working journalist from facing all sort of abuses like brutal beating, harassment, nor faced with unfounded embarassment”
Speaking to Journalists in Dutse on commemoration of this year’s International Journalist Freedom Day said Journalist demand for public and Govt support in all ramifications to boast their morale for them to render effective service delivery
“journalist need to be supported with an enabling working environment, as well be protected from all sort of humiliation, and harassment, while discharging their legitimate duty as a watchdog of society”
On the theme Freedom Day of the journalists, Dutse stated Journalist could only be free if allow to go about executing their functions freely devoid of any given molestation or harassment. Also state govts need to equip it’s media outfits with the much needed working facilities for the Journalists to operate.
Apart from calling for Insurance Cover for Working journalists, the veteran also suggest that Journalist working condition should be reviewed.
” Journalists need a better package like owning a befitting house to.live, a mobility to move round to facilitate his work and a better working environment”.
