Troops of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a 26- year old Suspected armed robber in his attempt to steal from residents of Awai road of Asaba, Delta State
The Suspect identified as Sunday Uzoigbe, is said to have hailed from Ihiala Local Government Area in neighbouring Anambra State was arrested during operation checkmate on Tuesday evening.
Confirming the arrrest of the Suspect to Journalists in Asaba on Wednesday, the 63 Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain George Okupe, said that the Suspect who was apprehended in possession of one pump action rifle ( With registration number 5455) and an android mobile phone, confessed to engaging in the armed robbery of residents of Asaba and its environs
He said” the suspect has been handed over to the Police for further investigation and prosecution, the bridge will continue to intensify the fight against Criminal activities within the state and the public are again advised to support security agencies with relevant information”
Recall that the troops of the brigade had earlier arrested Impostors of the Nigerian Army at Cooker Junction and Awai road in the state capital and warned against the use of military uniforms by civilians
” It is pernitent to state that Section 110 ( 1) of the Criminal Code marks it unlawful for any person who is a Civilian in any of the armed forces in Nigeria to wear the uniform of the armed forces or part of the uniform of such forces, and as such we Wish to call on law abiding Citizens of the State to be wary of Such Persons who parade themselves as military personnel” Captain George Okupe added
Meanwhile, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM, Wilson Oharisi 111, has called on the Federal Government and we’ll meaning Deltans to continue to Condenm rape and activities of rapists in its entirety, describing it as inhuman, barbaric and evil.
The royal father who spoke to Journalists in the area, vented anger on rapists , saying that rapists should be treated as armed bandits and urged the  governments at all levels to propound strigent measures and enabling laws that would serve as a deterrent to intending rapists, adding”I want to use this medium to urge the general public to always support victims of rape , and also be vigilant and be onlook out for Suspected rapists among the society and make sure they are brought to arrest”
While urging rape victims to always speak up, the monarch disclosed that the Council of Traditional Rulers in the State had also come out hard on rapists by one only openly condemning the act ,but also Promised to assist victims and follow up such cases to logical conclusion where the need arises.
