Kebbi State Government, Tuesday, extolled the excellent performances of the Wife of the State Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, as a Director of the Union of International Cancer Control ( UICC).
The State Government also threw it’s weight and that of the people of the state, behind Dr Bagudu, at a Press Conference, addressed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri, in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Yauri, the support to the Dr Bagudu, became imperative as she had a momentous and excellent first tenure .
The SSG said : ” Today, Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 the General Assembly for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is voting online to elect new board members for a two year term.
“Her Excellency, Dr Zainab Bagudu, Wife of the Governor is one of those directors seeking re-election.
“it may be recalled that Her Excellency was elected to the Board at of the UICC at the General Assemby which took place two years ago at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.”
Yauri expressed delght that, Dr Bagudu was the first female African to be elected to the board.
He added,” Her election received the endorsement of the Nigerian Government, cancer control organizations in Nigeria and other countries.
” Kebbi State is, as always, proud to be blessed with a champion that is widely acknowledged.
” In the last two years she used her directorship to further champion the cause of cancer control in Nigeria and other African countries as well.
” Prior to her election to the UICC, she founded the Medicaid Foundation which has been in the forefront of mobilization for cancer control.
” In Kebbi State she has helped to mobilize stakeholders and indeed facilitated partnerships between the State and leading companies that are in cancer control and treatment.”
Yauri further disclosed that ,this was in addition to many other initiatives that had advanced the cause of cancer care in the state.
The SSG averred:” As the UICC votes today, it is our hope and prayer that Her Excellency, Dr zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, shall be voted for a second term in office.
” It will be a wise choice and we are confident that she would continue with the excellent work she has been doing.”
