The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Kaduna Branch on Friday lambasted National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kaduna Command for incessant harassment of members stressing that pharmacists are licensed to import, export, mix, compound. prepare/ dispense, counsel, sell, procure, and distribute drugs and poisons (PCN Establishment Act 2022),. Times without number the NDLEA has unduly, illegally, and unprofessionally obstructed and hindered these life saving roles only to feather their nest, exploit Nigerians, collect bribes, and force their victims to give assent that bail is free after collecting millions of Naira.
In a Press Statement by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria duly signed by Pharm. Sunday Ali Okoh
Chairman, PSN Kaduna State Branch, Pharm. Mansur S. Halidu
PSN Secretary Kaduna State Branch and 5 others said, “NDLEA Respect the rights of patients and allow pharmacists to carry out their statutory roles. All over the planet earth, the rights to medications (life) are fundamental/ It is, worthy to note that
Law enforcement agents have become law breakers. What a shame! Enough is
enough NDLEA. Allow pharmacists to do their work. Arresting pharmacists and
obstructing bail application with a cover up – investigation is ongoing”
“Confiscating prescription drugs at pharmacies and placing a seal on the
pharmacies can no longer go down the throat. Pharmacies are legal entities and
many patients’ medication are stored in them. Sealing up pharmacies is as good
as denying the citizens the right to life. We call on the National Assembly and the Presidency to curtail the excesses of NDLEA in Kaduna State.” It maintained.
However, in a swift response, the NDLEA Commandant, Kaduna Command Ismaila Danmallam countered the PSN position saying that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is a professional body and won’t arrest any body without investigation and do not also collect bribe neither obstructs bail from members of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
