Our correspondent reports that the training which was initiated by the federal ministry of education with support from the World Bank is being implemented by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the opening of the training held at Federal College of Education (FCET), Gombe on Monday, the programme manager Abbati Dawakin Kudu Mohammed from the NBTE explained that the programme tagged “IDEAS” was designed to help youth develop their innovations and improve the effectiveness of their skills.

According to him, government jobs are no longer adequate for the teeming youth hence the idea to promote skills among the countrymen in order to make them self-employed.

He noted that the apprentices were drawn from various informal training centres where they learn different trades such as carpentry, welding and fabrication adding that the formal training by the NBTE would enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the occupations engaged by the trainees.

Also speaking, the national coordinator IDEAS project of the federal ministry of education Blessing Ogwu said the federal government would provide starter pack for the trainees to commence their occupations after the training.

In her speech, Gombe State Commissioner for education Aisha Maigari represented by an official of her ministry Ahmadu Usman Ali lauded the federal government for extending the gesture to the residents of the state, pledging full support.
