Former President, Good-luck Jonathan yesterday , commissioned 1.3 Km Underground Flood Control Tunnel, the reconstruction of a section of Atiku Abubakar dual carriage Way with street lightings and the first lifting of the adjoining 1 Km Afaha Ube road in Uyo capital city.
The commissioning of the life – touching projects also conincided with the 60th birthday celebration of Governor Umo Eno.
Jonathan, lauded the State Governor for his leadership strides of prioritizing the needs of his people as demonstrated in his ingenuity of initiating and completing the projects within his first year in office.
He described Governor Eno as a proactive leader, saying that, he is worthy of commendation and urged the people to be vigilant against anti-social elements who are bend at vandalizing public infrastructure.
Also, Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to the former President, his predecessors and the people for all their wishes on his birthday and restated his resolve to use the commonwealth of the state to put smiles on the faces through projects and programmes that will cushion suffering.
According to him, “We are committed to touching lives and improving the standard of living of our people. We are committed to rural development, and providing infrastructure, as the time we are in now demand soft infrastructure.
“The time demands that, we feed our people; it demands that we help them go back to the farm; it demands that our people take advantage of the contracts being provided. There are so many jobs for our young people and it demands that, we keep being in peace to continue to attract investment to our state to be able to provide jobs for our people”.
Eno, who described Atiku Abubakar Way intervention as a product of faith and circumstance said, the project was one of the interventions of his administration in response to citizen’s outcry.
He commended the contractor, Hensek Integrated Services, for satisfactorily interpreting government’s vision into reality, calling on all to protect infrastructure in their communities.
Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga in his over view of the project said, the project which was awarded in August 2023 has been completed to specifications, with a5 guarantee of deflooding the entire stretch of Atiku Abubakar Way and its environs as well as restoring life to the city area.
Head Teacher, Beulah International School, Mr Itoro Udokang who spoke on behalf of the residents expressed profound gratitude to the governor and offered prayers for him as he marked 60th birthday, describing him as a God-sent and a caring father.
