The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in Adamawa State strongly condemns the reckless interference in the election process, and undue delay in the release of final results and failure to declare Governor Ahmadu Umarun Fintiri as the real winner of the governorship poll.
In a statement signed by its Deputy Director-General, Chief Felix Tangwami, the party stated that, it was clear that Governor Fintiri was far ahead and has won the March 18 Governorship election in the state.
It stated, “Results collated from all the 21 LGAs which have been officially published on multiple official platforms indicate that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is the actual winner of the election, in which he secured the majority of votes cast. The final INEC computation places PDP ahead of APC by 31,249 votes. Thus: APC – 39,0275; PDP – 421,524.
“Therefore, the Campaign Council calls on INEC and all other federal institutions and instruments responsible for election management, oversight and enforcement, especially government organs and security agencies, to respect the processes and procedures for the conduct of elections, counting of votes and collation of results as enshrined in the 2022 electoral law.
“Nothing short of outright declaration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri will be acceptable to the PDP, and the generality of Adamawa people, who unanimously voted him for another term of four years”.
The PDP Campaign Council alleged that, there was an established and easily verifiable case of complicity by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State, Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari.
The Campaign Council therefore calls for his immediate replacement and summary dismissal from the public service as he allegedly misrepresented a critical portion of the poll result.
It added, “There cannot be a better evidence of the Commissioner’s complicity and partiality as found in his voiced recording, in which he acknowledged working for powers from above to help “Matan Nan” (this woman) win the governorship election in whatever way possible, including subverting the will of the people. Mallam Ari’s actions and inactions, are criminal against the constitution of Nigeria, and therefore, he should be prosecuted with immediate effect”.
The Campaign Council also strongly deplores the unwelcome rampage on the PDP Situation Room by heavily armed security forces, APC leaders and federal government officials with all the paraphernalia of power, only to find nothing incriminating against the PDP government or its leaders.
It further noted that, “It should be noted that, Governor Fintiri is neither in charge nor is he in control of the federal institutions and instruments, which could be deployed to take advantage of the governorship polls in Adamawa. It is obvious that the concerned institutions, instruments and individuals are all agents of the Presidency and the ruling APC.
“From their activities, actions, and inactions so far, these agents who have conspired and connived with the ruling party in subverting the will of Adamawa people, are obviously acting the script of the APC, which controls all the institutions and instruments of power”.
The Campaign Council also demands an immediate and underserved apology from the perpetrators of the evil plot to unnecessarily elongate the election process in the State.
It added, “INEC’s brazen unconstitutional disposition makes us more skeptical about their motives in Adamawa State. Why should a dispassionate umpire fly the unnecessary carrot of rerun elections even in PUs where results were declared to have over voting and not cancelled? According to the electoral law, rerun elections can only hold in polling units where election was cancelled.
“For us in the PDP, it remains curious how APC could dream of coming close to winning the governorship poll in Adamawa, when the party has long been limping through the cracks and corridors of a divided house, where Senator Binani is at war with most stakeholders of the party.
“In such a largely curious election circumstance, which resulted in an unsavory manipulation of the electoral process, there is no valid reason for any election rerun. Rather, the PDP calls for an outright declaration of Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as Governor-elect with immediate effect”.
