About 100 workers in Bali local government council, Taraba state, have cried out over the failure of the local government authority to pay them four-month salary arrears.
The aggrieved workers in an open letter, addressed to the state governor, Agbu Kefas and Permanent Secretary Bureau for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs , urged the council chairman to immediately pay them their four-month salary arrears.
They accused the local government boss of withholding their monthly salaries without any meaningful justification, while stating that they have been on the payrolls of the local government over years before he was elected as the chairman.
They said the situation has put them in serious hardship and starvation.
“The unjust treatment melted on us is unimaginable, we are passing through thorough hardship, couple with the national economic problems and the one initiated by our local government council, is not been easy for the past four months, our children can’t return to their schools anymore, we can’t attend to medication nor eat food.
“In our collective resolve, we are requesting for the payment of our long overdue arrears.
“We make this solemn ‘Save Our Souls’ plea in utmost regard for your highly esteemed office and earnestly seek for your speedy intervention in alleviating our plight within the shortest possible frame,” they pleaded.
The chairman, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE) Bali local government Abdulmumuni Isa also confirm the non payment of the staff since January 2024 while speaking with Journalists in Jalingo.

The chairman, Bali local government council Aboki Dauda refused to comment on the development after a series of phone calls and messages to his phone by our correspondent.
