Zamfara State government has approved the payment of EUR 232,000.00 as outstanding tuition fees for the 91 indigenes of the state it sponsores at the Cyprus International University.
They are a part of the 200 state indigenes the state government sponsors to study Medicine, Engineering, Technology and other science-based courses in foreign countries include India, Cyprus, US, UK, Neither land and Sudan.
A government statement signed by the state Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, said the payment of the outstanding tuition fees, which is for the 2021-2022 sessions, was delayed due to the numerous restrictions imposed by COVID-19.
The Cyprus institution submitted an invoice to the state government on the payment of the fees, with the number 1245 and dated 4th August 2022, requesting the Zamfara State Government to pay the outstanding balance of EUR 297,509.11 owed for the 2021-2022 academic year and another payment of EUR 386,598.00 for the 2022-2023 academic year starting in September 2022.
Consequently, the government has since communicated to the University, the approval for the payment of the tuition fees and the process for securing the forex from the Central Bank of Nigeia is ongoing.
The EUR 232,000.00 comprises EUR 200,000 as tuition, accommodation and meal fees being paid out of EUR 297,509.11 initially owed for the 2021-2022 academicyear; as well as EUR 23,157.00 for Residence Permit; and EUR 8,843.00 to be distributed across the 91 students.
