Zamfara Civic Group Commends Defence Minister For Tackling Insecurity
By Abubakar Ojima-Ojo, Abuja
A civic group in Zamfara State, the Concerned Citizens of Zamfara, has praised the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, for his role in strengthening military operations against banditry in the region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group’s Secretary, Kabir Lawal, credited Matawalle’s leadership with boosting security efforts.
“Special commendation must be given to Dr Matawalle, whose strategic guidance has been instrumental in supporting the ongoing operations,” Lawal said.
He added that the minister had reinforced the military’s determination and provided a framework for success in the fight against armed groups.
Under Matawalle’s leadership, security forces have stepped up operations against bandits, reportedly inflicting heavy losses on criminal networks.
The group highlighted recent successes, including the killing of several high-profile bandits linked to the notorious gang leader Bello Turji. Among those eliminated were Sani Mai Nasara, Sani Black, Kachalla Auta, Kabiru Jan Geru, and Audu Gajere.
Despite what the group described as a lack of support from Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, the military has continued to make progress in restoring security.
The group acknowledged the sacrifices made by security personnel, describing their efforts as a testament to the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity.
“This success demonstrates that with proper planning, determination, and strategic action, the battle against insecurity can be won,” the statement added.
Zamfara has been one of Nigeria’s worst-hit states by banditry, with armed groups carrying out kidnappings, attacks on villages, and extortion. However, recent military operations have raised hopes for improved security in the region.
