Thousands of aggrieved Nigerians have on Friday slammed President Muhammadu Buhari over the purported fuel price hike in the country.
It would be recalled that the PPPRA had Thursday evening released its new pricing template for the month of March, pegging the new pump price at N212.61 per litre.
But following public outcry and condemnation resulting in panic buying across major cities Friday morning, the agency deleted the post and replaced it with a caveat saying: “Please be informed that published prices are indicative of current market trend”.
Saddened by the development, the minister, in a statement he signed on Friday, disclosed that neither he nor President Muhammadu Buhari had given such approval.
Taking to their social media handles on Friday, some aggrieved Nigerians described the present administration as one that is making life difficult for them.
Some Twitter users questioned the Federal Government’s decision to increase the pump price when Nigerians are struggling to survive.
Below are some of the tweets gathered
@Mohnice_: “Woke up with the News that school girls were kidnapped in Kaduna. Yet d Brainless Govt are there increasing PMS price, while unscrupulous elements called bandits are there earning large from kidnapping while some brainwashed buharist are still echoing NEXT LEVEL.”
@DanielRegha: “Everyday Nigerians wake up to heartbreaking headlines; It’s either bandits attacked, incompetent officers or the govt took decisions that makes life for Nigerians d!fficult; Why will the Buhari govt encourage a #FuelPriceHike when Nigerians are struggling to survive. This is sad.”
@firstdoctorr: “A government that pays no price for being wrong is not a government you should expect to make any good decisions for you. Life might keep getting worse in Nigeria until this unfortunate government is made to pay a price for its heartlessness on Nigerians.”
@Fadeydey4you: “It is better they sell this country and share the money to all Nigerians. Let there be no Nigeria… No Dangote or Buhari. Because we just dey suffer and smile every day in our own country.”
@scad_official: “Everyday news from Nigeria can make you moonwalk into depression without even knowing. There’s absolutely no good news from this clime. 4 refineries here running at losses and we’re waiting for Dangote refinery. Thank you Buhari, you’re truly doing well.”
@AyoBankole: “I recall the now celebrated duo of Okonjo Iweala & SLS at town halls, along with the garrulous & now-infamous Oshiomole, explaining the need for deregulation & subsidy removal. Yet we marched in Ojota. Every #FuelPriceHike since then vindicates GEJ & indicts APC’s fraud manifesto.”
@Omojuwa: “This conundrum is a design; global oil prices go up, Nigeria’s FX revenue automatically increases due to its oil sales, but on the flip side of that coin, Nigeria’s petrol imports price increase due to the same effect. Because refining oil locally is rocket science.”
@dammiedammie35: “They regulated crypto transactions, Dollar price went up, fuel price is also 212 per liter now, but the minimum wage remained stagnant! This government derives pleasure in making its citizens sufferrr. If you ever get a chance, leave this country!!”
@PrinceNEnwerem: “For 3 days now there has been no electricity, fuel is now 212naira, everything is about to skyrocket except minimum wage and salaries.. Our rulers are steady failing every day.”
@Sir_Lehman_Atk: “When Buhari promise Nigerians change, they forget to ask him is it positive change or negative change. I now believe the bad thing Buhari can do does not exist.”
