An amalgamation of political and cultural groups have endorsed the candidature of All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for Yobe East Senatorial By-election Dr. Almajiri Geidam scheduled to fill in the vacant seat left behind by Ibrahim Geidam who had been appointed minister of Police Affairs by President Bola Tinubu.
The groups which included APC Concerned Forum, Yobe Farmers’ Association and Northern Youth Rights Protection in a press statement eulogized leadership virtues of Geidam, saying the Senatorial hopeful had done so much in growth and development of his zone and Yobe State in general.
The statement signed by convener of the group Comrade Abdullahi Maikano highlighted praiseworthy antecedents of Geidam as a civil servant in the old Borno State and Yobe to include; establishment of veterinary laboratory in Gashua, adherence to professionalism, ethics and accountability among staff and officers under his watch, timely and proactive measures in combating animal diseases, particularly in cattle and other livestock among others.
While enumerating the contributions of the Senatorial hopeful in the House of Reps as an elected member representing Bursari/Geidam/Yunusari federal constituency between 1999 and 2007, Maikano said Geidam as Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts ensured prudent and accountable management of tax payers’ resources by ministries, parastatals and agencies so community development projects were executed and delivered as contained in bill of contracts.
Maikano said teeming number of Yobe youth and women were empowered with one form of vocation or the other majority of whom he stated had become employers of labour courtesy of Hon. Geidam.
“Yobe East needs a man with immense passion for the welfare and wellbeing of the people at the grassroots who should be beneficiaries of dividends of democracy.
“In the current situation of economic bottleneck and rising cost of living across the country, particularly in Northeast geopolitical zone which has been devasted by over a decade of insurgency, Yobe East constituents must ensure they make the right choice in the forthcoming By-election of a leader capable of addressing issues with direct impact on the mases.
“We have strong faith and confidence in Dr. Geidam to deliver if elected and build on gains of his predecessors by focussing on socioeconomic infrastructure that will fast track development.
“As a stinkler for grassroots education and empowerment, he will ensure rise in number of pupils enrollment in basic and tertiary education.
“Primary health is another area that he is so much passionate about which we believe will receive needed attention from Geidam when elected as demonstrated in his previous public engagements where he gave special attention to people with one health challenge or the other.
“On behalf of various groups and important stakeholders in the project of making out State and Constituency in particular a better and prosperous place for all, we urge people of Yobe East to support and vote Dr. Almajiri Geidam as Senator Yobe East,” he appealed.
