The Women Initiative for Northern Nigeria Development (WINNDEV) has launched the Neighborhood Committee Network (NCN) to enhance community development and security interventions across Katsina State.
Speaking at the maiden press briefing in Katsina, the Coordinator of WINNDEV, Zainab Mohammed Sada, said the initiative aims to empower local communities to take charge of their safety, development, and overall well-being.
She emphasized that the organization is targeting 2,000 beneficiaries in each of the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, stressing the need for a grassroots movement that fosters community-led solutions to challenges faced by the people, particularly victims of banditry and other security concerns in the region.
“The establishment of a network of community-led committees is aimed at creating a platform for citizens to come together, share ideas, and work collectively towards common goals,” she stated.
The NCN is expected to focus on key areas such as community development, safety and security, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability. The initiative seeks to create a structured platform where communities can actively participate in decision-making and problem-solving processes.
As part of its strategic plan, Sada revealed that a national secretariat would be established to oversee the network’s activities. The NCN will also develop a comprehensive training program and foster partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and private sector entities.
“Our goal is to build stronger and more resilient communities that are better equipped to withstand challenges and seize opportunities at any given time,” she added.
She called on stakeholders, community members, and relevant organizations to support the initiative, stressing that collective effort is essential in creating a sustainable future for the people of Katsina and beyond.
“We invite you all to join us on this journey so that together we shall build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our communities,” she noted.
The launch of NCN marks a significant step in empowering communities in Katsina, offering hope to victims of banditry and those striving for a safer and more prosperous society.
