A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old woman, Stella David, to eight months imprisonment for misappropriating N980,000 belonging to a company.
In his judgment, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced David to eight months imprisonment with N100,000 option of fine.
Magistrate Emmanuel also ordered David to pay restitution of N980,000 to the complainant, Markus James of Dentex Company and another N50,000 as cost of investigation.
The magistrate stated that David would spend an additional one year in prison if she fails to pay.
Earlier, the Prosecution Xounsel, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that the matter was reported on May 31 by Markus of Dentex Company located in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna .
Leo said the defendant was a sales representative of Dentex Company.
He said that the defendant collected the goods valued at N980,000, sold some and converted the money to her personal use.
The prosecutor added that all efforts to recover the money from David proved abortive, saying, “ she could not even give an account of the money”
Leo said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 311 and 316 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
