Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state insists that without fishing out ghost workers in the state, his government could not provide infrastructures to the citizens.
Speaking Thursday during a parley with stakeholders on the challenges associated with the payment of salaries in the state held at command guest house Bauchi, the governor revealed that when he took over the mantle of leadership of the state, payment of monthly salaries engulfed the sum of N4.5 billion lamenting that they have now skyrocketed to N7 billion.
Bala who said the salaries increased even though no new employments were made, decried that the development followed the proliferation of ghost workers on the payroll of the government.
This he disclosed, was the reason behind the non payment of some workers salaries for some months promising that the matter would soon be resolved.
According to him, a verification committee was set up and consultants were engaged to fish out the ghost workers promising that genuine staff would continue to receive their salaries just as he vowed that those found culpable in the insertion of ghost workers on the payroll would be prosecuted.
The governor therefore appealed to the general public in the state to reason with the government on the delay in the payment of salaries and pensions emphasizing that most of the federal allocations and the internally generated revenues got by the state are being expended on salaries and pensions.
He insists that without sanitizing the civil service, his administration would not be able to attain its goals.
