The Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL), has commended the University of Ilorin Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL), for its readiness for accreditation by the NUC.
According to the University of Ilorin Bulletin issued on Monday, the RETRIDOL Director, Prof. Patrick Eya, gave the commendation when he led a team from the Institute to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem.
Eya said that RETRIDOL is an organ of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), which is on a one-day visit to the University to assess the facilities available at CODL in readiness for the NUC accreditation/formal licensing to run distance education.
He commended the management for “sinking so much money” into the CODL to make it among the best in the country.
Eya said this will give access to qualitative education to as many people as possible.
He explained that RETRIDOL and CODL are about human capital development and capacity building.
Eya also advised the University on areas of improvement before the accreditation.
In his response, Prof Sulyman Abdulkareem, the Vice-Chancellor of Unilorin commended the RETRIDOL team for its visit and its advice to the University.
He observed that the advice would be of great help to the institution to improve on its facilities.
Abdulkareem assured them that everything would be done administratively to ensure that Unilorin CODL becomes the best in the country and secures the NUC accreditation in flying colours.
In his remarks, Prof. Henry Owolabi, the Director of the University of Ilorin CODL, also told the Vice-Chancellor that the RETRIDOL team was in the University to assess the centre’s readiness for NUC’s formal approval.
