Mr Robert McDonald, the Global Chief of Operations of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has lauded the military for securing Monguno town and environs.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday by Maj. Ojo Adenegan, the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of Sector III ”Operation Hadin Kai and Multinational Joint Task Force Monguno”.
McDonald gave the commendation during his team’s visit to the command.
He said that the peaceful atmosphere created in Monguno has not only improved civil-military relations but provided the enabling environment for residents and hummanitarian organisations, particularly International NGOs to operate in the area.
McDonald called for sustain cordial relationship for more effective humanitarian interventions in the area which is recovering from insurgency activities.
While welcoming the UN team, the Commander of Sector III, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, lauded the effective role of UN agencies in containing the humanitarian crisis caused by the insurgency and assured them of military support in facilitating their activities.
Mutkut reiterated the commitment of the military to good civil – military cooperation with locals and humanitarian organisations operating in the sector’s area of responsibility.
Highlights of visit include presentation of souvenir, signing of visitors book and group photograph.
Other dignitaries in the UN team include Senior Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa Dakar, Mr Elias Forsung and Senior Field Officer, Mr Gio vanni.
