Thuggery: Attacks Persist In Gombe
….As Police Tasked On Early Night Patrol
Residents of Gombe State capital have urged the police in the state to commence patrol of the city early night in order to protect the citizens against the notorious ‘Kalare’ thugs who unleash terror on the people.
The residents in an interview with our correspondent said the violent activities of the daredevil thugs have continued unabated despite the mid night movement restriction enforced by the police in the state.
Recall that following the killing of an Islamic preacher in the state late Sheikh Albani Kuri by the Kalare thugs who attacked him in his residence at night with a view to rob him of his phones, the police restricted movement from 12AM to 6AM on all citizens except those on essential duties.
However, Daylight Reporters gathered that the hoodlums remained adamant in their atrocities as after the midnight curfew, they still attack, injure and rob people of their phones early night before the time of the curfew.
In an interview, a victim of recent Kalare attack one Adamu Babale Makera revealed that he was attacked by one of them on Tuesday night at about 10PM at kasuwar waya while coming from Makera community.
According to him, the attacker wanted to rob him of his motorcycle but failed as he rode his bike fastly after feeling machete’s cuts on his back by the thug in his bid to snatch the bike.
He added that after fleeing from the attacker, he noticed that his back bled and therefore rushed to Gombe specialists hospital for treatment.
“I then sighted my attacker entering a KEKE NAPEP that was waiting for him. I suspect that he came with the KEKE NAPEP and his gangsters were inside in case he needed back up.
“I appeal to the police in the state to extend their patrol to Makera, kasuwar waya and other places around the area because I was told that such incidents have been occurring there.”, he entreated.
Also, another resident of the state capital Sani Halilu has alleged that the Kalare thug have killed someone at Jeka da fari quarters which is notorious for thuggery.
He appealed to the police to act on the matter.
When contacted on the call to commence patrol early night in the affected areas, the police spokesman in the state Mahid Muazu Abubakar promised that they would look into it
