Taraba State Gets New Head Of Service

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has approved the appointment of Ahmed Kara as the state’s new Head of the Civil Service.
The appointment was announced Tuesday via a press statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Timothy Kataps.
Mr Kara was until his new appointment the permanent secretary at the Taraba State Health Services Management Board.
The medical doctor takes over from Paul Tino, who retired on Monday, 3rd February, 2025 having spent 35 years in service.
Governor Kefas has commended Tino for his meritorious service to Taraba State, especially his demonstrated brilliance, resourcefulness, professionalism and exemplary leadership, which greatly helped in repositioning the State Civil Service for optimal service delivery.
The governor wished Mr Tino success in his future endeavour.
Mr Kara was born on the 31st August 1968 in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, began his early education at Nurul-Ulum Primary School, Gembu from 1974- 1980.
He attended Government Secondary School Gembu from 1980- 1985,
where he studied Arts, after which he proceeded to the College of Preliminary
Studies Yola, from 1985- 1987 and studied GCE Science.
He later gained admission into University of Maiduguri and graduated in 1995 with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and had housemanship at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
He was mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and posted to
St. Lukes Hospital Anua, Awka-Ibom in 1996-1997.
On completion of the National Service, he practiced at Fletcher Memorial
Catholic Hospital Ikot-Abasi for six months and got employed In the Mobil
Clinic Eket in 1997.
Due to family demand, he relocated to Taraba and got employed in the State
Specialist Hospital (now Federal Medical Centre Jalingo) for a period of one
year and later transferred to head the Government House Clinic, Jallingo,
where he was appointed Physician to the Governor from 1999–2007, and
again, Physician to the Governor 2007- 2015.
He was later transferred to the Health Services Management Board as Chief
Medical Officer and then to Ministry of Health as Director Hospital Services
in 2016.
Kara was appointed as a Permanent Secretary in 2022 and assigned to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS) in charge of Home Affairs and Special Services Department and later posted to Health Services Management Board as Permanent Secretary.
On the 6th December, 2024, he was also assigned to supervise the new Ministry of Tertiary Education as Supervising Permanent Secretary, the positions he held until his present appointment as the Head of Service.
Kara is married with three wives and nine children children.
