Justice Filibus Andetur, Chief Judge of Taraba inaugurated a 10-man Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee on Thursday in Jalingo to spearhead judicial reforms in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inauguration was the highlight of a one-day workshop on “Strengthening the Application of Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).
The workshop was organised by the state’s criminal justice stakeholders with support from McArthur Foundation.
Andetur, chairman of the committee urged members to ensure that the Taraba ACJL assented to by Gov. Darius Ishaku in December 2021, was fully implemented for the benefit of society.
According to him, when fully implemented, the law will make justice dispensation easier and help in tackling corruption and social ills in the society.
“I believe that the implementation of the administration of criminal justice law will simplify the work of prosecutors, judges and magistrates for speedy dispensation of justice.
“The monitoring committee of this all important assignment must be committed to achieving the desired goal of enhancing speedy justice dispensation,’’ he said.
In his remarks, Mr Suleiman Dawodu, National Secretary, Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee, noted that Taraba was the 17th to inaugurate a committee out of 25 states that had signed the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
He commended the state for promptly identifying with the global best practice of judicial reforms for a better society.
NAN reports that dozens of judicial workers in the state participated in the workshop.
