A former commissioner of Youth Empowerment and president, FC Yarmalight, Gombe, Malam Farouk Yarma, was on Monday honoured with a special merit award for his immense contributions and genuine commitment to sports development in Gombe State by the North East Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN).
North East zonal Vice-President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), said Yarma was being recognised for his accomplishments in sports development at both individual level and as a public office holder,
“On behalf of the executives of SWAN and sports lovers all over the country, I congratulate you on this special merit award. This award is well merited and I know you didn’t solicit for it because I know that you are not aware of this award until you were notified.
“As sportswriters, we have monitored your antecedents and contributions to sports development in Gombe and Nigeria, as well as your sterling accomplishments in establishing the first football academy in the North East zone, which produced many players who are now playing as professionals’ home and abroad,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Malam Yarma thanked SWAN for the award, adding that it would encourage him to do more for sports development especially at the grassroots level.
