Suspected bandits have killed two brothers in Wapan Nghaku community of Wukari Local Government Area (LGA) in Taraba state.
Sources in the community said the incident occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The police also confirmed the incident to DAYLIGHT REPORTERS.
According to a resident, Ahijo Dogo, the victims Masandi Moses and Mikhima Moses had gone to their farm to clear it when the suspected militants ambushed them.
“Last Friday the two brothers who went to their farm, and then and the bandits brutally attacked and killed them,” Mr Dogo said.
Dogo expressed surprise that the fresh attack resumed in the area after the community and other neighbouring communities started enjoying peace.
Speaking of the sad incident, the Chairman of Wukari LGA, Dauda Samaila said, “My heart is heavy, these were hardworking young men whose lives were cut short in the most senseless and violent way.”
Mr Samaila said he has already mobilised security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that the attackers were brought to justice.
“We must not allow this violence to continue. Our people deserve to live in peace, to work in their farms, and to raise their families without fear,” he said.
The senator representing Taraba South Senatorial District, David Jimkuta, who visited the family of the victims over the weekend also condemned the attack.
Mr Jimkuta described the killings as “a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of peace.
“This is not just a crime against two individuals, it’s an attack on the soul of Wukari,” Jimkuta said.
He called for swift justice and urged security agencies to act decisively.
“We must build a society where conflict is not resolved through the barrel of a gun but through dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect,” he said.
DAYLIGHT REPORTER gathered that the fresh attack has heightened fear and concerns over insecurity in farming communities, now that the rainy season is approaching.
