The deputy governor Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, has dared the state commissioner of police, Hussain Rabiu, for stopping his supporters from holding rally in his honour in the state.
The deputy governor has chosen to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after the defection of the governor, Bello Matawalle, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In his text message exchange with the police chief, the deputy governor said his supporters have rights to escort him home if they want.
“CP Zamfara, there is no RALLY taking place. I am in a convoy with my FAMILY to my house and using the route I always take.
“If well wishers choose to follow me home, it is their RIGHT. If the youths choose to escort me home, it is their RIGHT.
“If all p deem me fit and decide to watch me as I drive home it is their CONSTITUTIONAL,” the deputy governor said in the chat.
Mr Gusau wondered why the police commissioner would “harass and intimidate” his supporters despite his principal’s resolve to work with him irrespective of their party affiliations.
