Dr Yakubu Agbaizo, Chairman of the Taraba State Primary Education Board (TSUBEB) has called on teachers to be patient, as Gov. Darius Ishaku, will pay the Rural Teachers Allowances (RTA).
Agbaizo gave the assurance while briefing on Friday in Jalingo.
”We know that rural teachers face a lot challenges. Gov. Ishaku is committed to pay the RTA to cushion the effects of the hardship.
”The two months arrears being owed to teachers was inherited. We appeal to the teachers to be patient as the governor is working hard to source for the money and clear all the back log.
”It is obvious that schools located within Jalingo and other towns have a lot of teachers. But we have shortage of teachers in the rural areas.
”We introduced the RTA as a means of motivation to those teachers being posted to rural communities.
“We have more qualified teachers in public schools than private schools but our challenge is motivation and supervision which will soon be a thing of the past, ‘Agbaizo said.
The chairman also said that the board had purchased motorcycles and would soon distribute them to supervisors who would be visiting all schools on supervisions.
Agbaizo gave the assurance that public schools would continue to give the best education to students in basic and post basic schools.
He regretted that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected the revenue base of the state.
