Speaker Abbas Mourns Lawal Atiku, Prince Ibrahim

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has mourned the death of an elder statesman, Malam Lawal Atiku, who once held the traditional title of the Wakilin Sana’an Zazzau and a prince of the Zazzau Emirate and Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Idris, who held the traditional title of Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gidan Zazzau.
In a condolence message by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi on Tuesday, he described the demise of the two personalities as painful.
The late elder statesman, Malam Atiku, died on October 18, aged 76, while the late Prince Ibrahim passed away on October 20 at the age of 47. He was one of the sons of the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.
Speaker Abbas sent his heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the family of the late Emir, that of Malam Lawal Atiku, as well as the entire Zazzau Emirate over the losses.
He prayed to Allah (SWT) to forgive them and accept their souls into Jannatul Firdaus.
The late Malam Atiku came from the Gidan Chikun family in Kaura, Zaria. Born in 1948 in Kaura Zaria, an engineer by training, he worked across various local government areas in the old Kaduna State at Ikara and Katsina, and retired as the Director, Personnel Management in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
He was among the first to be turbaned by the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Idris as Wakilin Sana’an Zazzau in 1975 before he relinquished the title to his son in 2020.
The late Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gidan Zazzau was born in Zaria in 1976, attended Therbow Primary School and the Nigerian Military School (NMS) both in Zaria for his primary and secondary education.
He bagged a degree in Economics from Sudan in the year 2006 and worked as an account officer at the National Board For Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) until his death.
As the Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gidan Zazzau, he was responsible for the protocol of horses procession during any Durbar in Zazzau Emirate.
He was also a one-time District Head of Turunku District in Igabi Local Government Area.
