Sokoto Govt Distributes Drugs, Mama Kits Worth Over 1.6bn To 244 PHCs.

Sokoto state governor Ahmed Aliyu has began the distribution of essential drugs and mama kits worth over 1.6bn to 244 Primaey Health centres across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Speaking before the flag-off, the governor said, the programme was part of his administration’s modest effort to boost the healthcare service delivery especially at the grassroots, hence having improved health care services as a top priority.
“”Ladies and gentlemen, we have expended the sum of N1,663,245,000 for the purchase of essential drugs, and hem tonic drugs, under-5 children drugs, mothers and children drugs, misoprostol and chlorohexidine gel as well as mama delivery kits to be distributed in all our primary health centers in the state””.
While clarifying that the drugs were purchased based on requests by the local government councils, the governor added that his government had followed the governance pattern of his political mentor, former governor and now Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, by ensuring that health care services are accessible and affordable to all manner of people.
“This free medical care programme has helped greatly in encouraging our rural populace especially the pregnant mothers, to attend antenatal care. Thereby reducing in no small measure cases of maternal mortality and child morbidity in Sokoto state”.
The governor however fiercely warned against sabotage or diversion of the drugs, adding that his government will deal decisively with any local government chairman found wanting.
He further urged security agencies to be vigilant and apprehend anybody found culpable, even as he appealed to the people of the state to continue to support his programmes and polices geared towards making the state better for all.
