Sokoto, Gombe Record Highest Food Inflation Rates in Nigeria – Survey

There was nationwide protests last August against hunger in the country caused by inflation as Nigerians are facing difficulties continuous rise in prices of food items.
The rise followed removal of fuel subsidy announced by President Bola Tinubu on his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023.
In a survey conducted in September, Sokoto records 50.47 per cent inflation in the price of food items followed by Gombe which witnessed 44.09 per cent.
The report shows that Yobe State experiences 43.51 per cent, Jigawa State, 43.17 per cent and Borno State has 42.54 per cent food inflation rate.
The rest are; Edo State, 42.52 per cent, Kebbi State, 41.2 per cent, Abia State, 40.9 per cent, Cross Rivers, 40.83 per cent and Enugu, 40.44 per cent.
According to the survey, food prices have increased by over 40 per cent in all these states, making them the highest in the nation with food inflation.
DAYLIGHT REPORTERS observed that with the latest increase in the price of petrol, inflation will likely increase again nationwide.
