Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Adamu Usman Lawal, has alleged narrowly escaping an assassination attempt in the northern part of Kaduna State.
The senator disclosed this on Wednesday, January 1, in a post shared on his Facebook page at around 9:40pm.
“I just escaped an assassination attempt by some thugs in Kaduna North,” the post read.
The announcement has since garnered over 2,000 reactions from users on the social media platform.
While many expressed gratitude to God for sparing the senator’s life, others criticized the deteriorating security situation in the country.
They questioned how an ordinary citizen could remain safe if a high-ranking official faced such threats.
One Facebook user, Aminu Isah Abubakar, commented: “You will be safe throughout your tenure, insha Allah.”
Another user, Baseera Bello Mashe, wrote: “Subhanallah, may God continue to protect you. Stay safe, Distinguished.”
Musa Nuhu Usman lamented: “The whole senator! This tells you how bad the country has become. Anyway, you are safe.”
Before his election to the Nigerian Senate under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Senator Lawal was a prominent businessman and philanthropist in Kaduna.
He currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Basic and Secondary.
