Former lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and human right activist, Sen. Shehu Sani has condemned the alleged plan by the Federal Government to hike the train fare.
The senator who disclosed this on his verified twitter handle on Monday stated that hundred per cent increase in Kaduna-Abuja train fare is unjust, unfair and condemnable.
While expressing his displeasure over the alleged plan increase, the human right activist explained, “Everywhere in the world, Governments are finding ways of easing the economic hardships caused by the pandemic.
“It’s sad and tragic that the opposite is happening here. It’s most callous and cruel that for a region of Nigeria ravaged by banditry and kidnapping, doubling train fare is insensitive path the transportation Minister has taken.
“First was increase in electricity tariff, then increase in prices of petroleum and now increase in train fare; what they give at N-Power and Covid-19 loan with the right hand, they are taking it back with the left hand.’’
Shehu Sani therefore call on President Buhari to intervene and halt what he described as soulless increase, adding that people will blame the President and not the Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the increase of the train fare.
