An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old scrap metal seller, Kabirullahi Salisu, to one month imprisonment for stealing N180, 000.
Chief Magistrate K.A. Ariyo, sentenced Salisu, after the convict pleaded guilty to theft.
Ariyo gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N25, 000.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunkanmi Adejuomo told the court that the convict stole N180, 000 from the complainant, Alhaji Tijani Abubakar.
Adejumo told the court that the convict committed the offence between November 2019 and August 2020.
He submitted that the convict collected the money from the complainant with a promise to sell some scrap metal, a representation he knew to be false.
The prosecution added that all efforts to retrieve the money from the convict failed.
