Sanusi’s Reinstatement Most Important Event In My Life – Elrufai
Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, describing it as “one of the most important events” in his life.
El-Rufai made this statement at the Arewa Tech Fest, a gathering of political and technology leaders discussing Northern Nigeria’s advancements, attended by key figures including the governors of Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara states.
Sanusi’s reinstatement comes after his controversial dethronement in 2020 by former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who had a frosty relationship with Sanusi since 2017.
Many believed Sanusi’s removal was due to his opposition to Ganduje’s re-election bid in 2019. Sanusi was known for speaking out against the worsening state of insecurity in Northern Nigeria and the opulent lifestyle of political leaders, despite the region’s high poverty rate.
The Kano State Government’s decision to reinstate Sanusi was made possible through the repeal of the 2019 Emirate Council Amendment Bill, which had established additional emirate councils in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed the bill into law, paving the way for Sanusi’s return.
This move has been met with mixed reactions across the country, but for El-Rufai, it marks a moment of vindication and renewal for Northern Nigeria’s traditional leadership.
